Rick & Terri D'Onofrio
Owners/Artistic Directors
Since receiving their B.F.A. degrees in 1983 from Valdosta State College, Rick and Terri D'Onofrio have directed, choreographed, and performed for theatres throughout the Southeast and Midwest. These honor graduates have been seen on a wide variety of stages, from Walt Disney World to regional theatre to Opryland USA to National tours (and many, many, many dinner theatres in between!).
In addition to their performing and directing credits, Rick and Terri have taught drama workshops for The Nashville Academy Children's Theatre, The Florida Orchestra, the State Thespian Conventions of Florida and Georgia, and for dozens of schools and performing arts centers. These enrichment workshops have inspired and motivated hundreds of students by building self-confidence through theatre training. In fact, Rick and Terri's most famous student is Nick Carter of The Backstreet Boys who credits them in his book for mentoring him as a performer.
The D'Onofrio's are the creators of Stages Productions, a professional theatre ensemble that specializes in bringing classic fairy tales to over 150,000 people each year. Since 1988, the Tampa Bay based company has been "Building Tomorrow's Audience Today" by helping to redefine professional standards in children's theatre. Stages goal is to stimulate the cultural, intellectual and ethical development of young people by making drama an integral part of education.
The D'Onofrio's have developed and produced over a dozen original musical adaptations of classic fairy tales. In addition, the company was commissioned to create three Artist-in-the-Schools shows that teach water conservation to thousands of Florida students. They are especially proud of their work on "The Art of FCAT", an instructional video that directly correlates going on theatre field trips to Florida's Sunshine State Standards and FCAT testing.
Stages is proud to be accredited by dozens of school boards throughout the Southeast, and is a member of the Florida Professional Theatre Association, The Florida West Coast Theatre Consortium, and the Central Florida Theatre Alliance. These nationally recognized organizations promote excellence in professional theatre.
As Stages Productions celebrates its 21st season, Rick and Terri continue to grow and learn and take on new challenges. In 2000 Rick fulfilled a lifelong goal by earning his Masters degree in management from the University of Phoenix. Stages newest production entitled The Ugly Duckling's Journey to Away emphasizes the three R's of waste management (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). This fun filled musical teaches the audience "if we want our county clean, we should try to be more green"!
